Polio Diva — About the Name
I chose the name Polio Diva as an act of artistic defiance. Polio marked my body, but it did not claim my voice. “Diva” is the shimmer I place over the scar — not to hide it, but to insist that even a life shaped by illness can be luminous, expressive, and unapologetically mine.
This site is a small archive of survival, tenderness, and craft. I write about post‑polio the way I write about anything that matters: with clarity, with honesty, and with a touch of magic. The name is a spell of reclamation.
It is also a reminder of intention: I am not here to glorify the illness — I am here to glorify the human being who lives with it.
I am not shining a spotlight on polio. I am shining a spotlight on the person — their courage, their humor, their intelligence, their creativity, their stubborn will to keep shaping a life. I am honoring the lived experience, not the disease. I am saying that the human story matters more than the diagnosis.
Polio Diva simply means: the person is radiant, complex, worthy of attention — and the illness does not get to dim that light.

Elegí el nombre Polio Diva como un acto de desafío artístico. La polio marcó mi cuerpo, pero no reclamó mi voz. “Diva” es el brillo que deposito sobre la cicatriz — no para ocultarla, sino para insistir en que incluso una vida moldeada por la enfermedad puede ser luminosa, expresiva y, sin disculpas, mía.
Este sitio es un pequeño archivo de supervivencia, ternura y oficio. Escribo sobre el post‑polio como escribo sobre todo lo que importa: con claridad, con honestidad y con un toque de magia. El nombre es un conjuro de reivindicación.
También es un recordatorio de intención: No estoy aquí para glorificar la enfermedad — estoy aquí para glorificar al ser humano que vive con ella.
No estoy iluminando a la polio. Estoy iluminando a la persona — su valentía, su humor, su inteligencia, su creatividad, su voluntad terca de seguir moldeando una vida. Estoy honrando la experiencia vivida, no la dolencia. Estoy diciendo que la historia humana importa más que el diagnóstico.
